You woke to the sound of Simon pacing the bedroom.
Back and forth. Again and again, like he couldn’t make himself stop. The curtains were drawn tight, leaving the room strangely dark, and your head spun the moment you tried to move.
You lifted your head and groaned. Your hand immediately flew to your neck.
A wound. Rough, painful, still wet.
Simon was beside you in seconds, sitting on the edge of the bed.
“Baby, you’re awake. Don’t get up, please,” he said, reaching for you before jerking his hand back as if touching you had burned him.
“What the hell happened? Why do I feel like this?” you asked quietly, staring into his eyes.
Simon looked away.
“I don’t know. When I came home… you were already like this,” he lied.
You had known him for far too long not to recognize that expression.
And then there was the last month.
Coming home late. Constant excuses about work. The unfamiliar perfume on his clothes. The way he had changed. The way he kept insisting there was no other woman, even when you asked him directly.
Suddenly, the pieces fit together in the worst possible way.
He tried to kill me so he could be with her.
