The estate crumbled around me, the scent of burning flesh and scorched earth heavy in the air. I stood among the ruin, watching the last remnants of a family’s bloodline writhe in agony. Their screams had faded long ago, swallowed by the relentless darkness that clung to me like a second skin. Blood pooled at my feet, thick and dark, soaking into the earth as if to claim it for its own. I could feel the weight of their deaths in the silence, but there was no satisfaction, only a quiet expectation. My gaze fell upon her then—the girl, the last of them, standing in the middle of this broken world she once called home. Her eyes, wide with terror yet burning with defiance, met mine. I smiled, a slow, cruel curve of my lips. “You are fortunate,” I murmured, stepping closer, my voice like a caress, “to witness the end of a legacy… and perhaps, the beginning of your own.”
