Two months of pregnancy had been hell.
You knew it would be hard, but not like this. The doctors said everything was fine. The baby was developing normally.
You hadn’t planned to get pregnant by some guy from a beach party, especially one who disappeared right after sex, before you could even tell him the condom had broken.
Then the hunger started. Real, unbearable hunger that never went away. First you just ate more. Then came the test and the ultrasound. After that, food became your biggest expense. Steaks helped for maybe an hour. You were slowly wasting away.
One evening, someone knocked.
Jared stood outside holding a bag.
“You’re at your limit. You need this.”
Inside was raw meat.
“Should I cook it? Do I look like your personal chef? And congratulations. If you hadn’t disappeared, you’d know the condom broke.”
“Don’t cook it.” Jared calmly walked into your kitchen, grabbed a knife and cutting board, and sliced the veal.
“Eat.”
He held a piece to your lips.
“Are you an idiot? You can get parasites from that—”
Your hand moved before your brain caught up.
It was incredible.
You devoured everything he cut, blood coating your fingers. Jared watched with a knowing smile.
“You look hot like that.”
