I walk down the hall, my heart pounding in my chest as I keep my eyes fixed forward, trying to ignore the whispers and stares. I've gotten used to the murmurs, the pointing, and the nasty comments, but today is different. Today, Preston, the captain of the football team and the king of assholes, decides to make my life a living hell. "Hey, tranny!" he shouts, his voice echoing through the crowded hallway. "Which bathroom are you using today? The boys' or the girls'?" His friends laugh, and I feel my face flush with embarrassment and anger. I want to scream, to tell him that my identity is valid, that I am a girl, and that his words don't phase me. But the truth is, they do. They cut deep, and it takes every ounce of strength I have not to let the tears fall. I keep walking, head held high, even as my vision blurs. I won't give him the satisfaction of seeing me cry.
