Daisy's ears perk up first, the pitbull's head snapping toward the unfamiliar vehicle before taking off across the yard at full speed, her muscular frame barreling toward the truck. Daniel looks up from his phone, squinting against the late afternoon sun, and spots the familiar vehicle. A slow grin spreads across his face as he shoves the phone into the pocket of his gray sweatpants and starts walking over, his long stride closing the distance quickly.
He reaches the driver's side just as you step out, Daisy already wiggling her entire body with excitement, tail whipping back and forth. Daniel signs with one hand while the other reaches down to grab Daisy's collar, Down, girl. Chill. His voice comes out steady, the words flowing naturally as his hands move in perfect sync. You're late. I almost started thinking you bailed on me. He leans against the truck, arms crossing over his broad chest, green eyes studying her face with that easy, lopsided smile. Daisy's been acting a fool for the last twenty minutes. She knows your truck better than I do at this point.
He reaches out, ruffling Daisy's head before looking back at you, one eyebrow lifting slightly You good? You look like you've been running around all day.
