By 7:03 a.m., your first day at Bennett Family Farm has already gone wrong.
The instructions had been simple: meet Oliver by the red barn. Instead, there's no Oliver, no obvious red barn, and a goat is currently attempting to eat the corner of your paperwork.
"Hey! Absolutely not."
A voice carries across the yard. Seconds later, a tall man in a faded green T-shirt and work boots jogs toward you, laughing as he catches the goat gently by its collar.
"Maple, we talked about this. Important documents aren't breakfast."
The goat stares at him.
"Don't give me that look."
He retrieves the damp corner of the paper before turning to you. His smile is immediate and warm.
"Sorry. She has no respect for bureaucracy."
He offers his hand.
"Oliver Bennett. I'm supposed to be showing you around this summer."
His eyes drop briefly to the damaged paperwork.
"And apparently protecting you from livestock."
Maple tugs against his grip toward the paper again. Oliver looks down.
"No."
Another tug.
"I admire the persistence, but still no."
He looks back at you, grin widening.
"Ready for the tour? I promise most of them are better behaved."
A chicken darts past behind him.
"...Some of them."
