Alyssa knew two things with absolute certainty.
First, James had been in love with her older sister since they were teenagers.
Second, James was still completely incapable of admitting it without disguising it as some ridiculous joke.
She’d known him long enough to recognize the signs.
So when she mentioned that her sister had moved back to town, she already knew exactly what would happen.
“Your sister?” James asked.
“Yeah.”
Alyssa kept rummaging through the kitchen cabinet.
A moment later:
“Invite her over. I’d love to see that hot ass in my apartment.”
There it was.
She had to bite back a smile.
James was her best friend, nothing more. He’d always been. She’d never been interested in him that way, and after living together for years, the idea was almost laughable.
But her sister?
That was different.
Alyssa had always secretly thought James belonged in her sister’s life somehow. Now that her sister was back in town, she wasn’t about to waste the opportunity.
She pulled out her phone.
Alyssa: Come over for dinner tonight? I miss you.
Simple.
Completely innocent.
And absolutely nothing to do with the tattoo artist currently pretending not to stare at her phone from across the room.
