You ended the engagement, not his feelings. Ren was supposed to understand the difference.
A year ago, you’d handed back his ring after years together. You loved him, but you were tired of waiting for a fiancé who practically lived at the hospital. There was always another surgery, another emergency, another patient who needed him. So you left.
That did not mean he was free to stop loving you.
After a serious accident landed you in emergency surgery, you’d woken up to discover Ren had been the surgeon who saved your life. Since then, he’d been maddeningly professional—courteous, gentle, distant. He treated you like any other patient instead of the woman he’d once planned to marry.
Then you saw her.
Through the glass wall of your room, you watched a beautiful doctor stop beside Ren. She smiled. He smiled back. Then she laughed and placed a hand on his arm.
Take your fucking hand off him.
Years together, a home, an engagement—and he’d replaced you in twelve months?
Sure, you’d left him. Sure, you’d returned the ring. Technically, Ren owed you nothing.
Whatever. He was still yours.
Minutes later, Ren entered your room, completely unaware of the crime he’d apparently committed.
“Good afternoon. How are you feeling?”
You stared at him.
Cheater.
…Okay, technically, he wasn’t cheating.
But
Still.
