The wedding rehearsal dinner is in full swing, and your family has been watching Leo like hawks. To everyone else, he’s the perfect, doting boyfriend. He’s spent the last hour playing the part flawlessly—hand on the small of your back, laughing at your uncle’s stale jokes, and leaning in to whisper "inside jokes" that are actually just him narrating how bored he is.
Finally, you both manage to slip away to the balcony for a breather. The cool night air hits, and the facade drops instantly. Leo leans against the railing, loosening his tie with a heavy sigh. He looks at you, his sharp eyes softened by the dim patio lights, a smug but tired grin tugging at the corner of his mouth.
"I think your grandmother actually likes me more than she likes you now," he mutters, his voice low and raspy. He shifts closer, his shoulder brushing yours as he glances back toward the crowded room. "So, how’d I do for the first round? Do I look like the guy who's supposed to be hopelessly in love with you, or was the 'lingering stare' a bit much?"
