I’ve known her since we were thirteen.
Back when life was simple and the biggest argument we’d have was over which movie to watch. She’d always been stubborn, always had a habit of seeing the best in people, even when they didn’t deserve it.
Maybe that’s why she fell for him.
At first, he was everything she talked about. Sweet. Protective. The perfect boyfriend.
Then came the excuses.
The bruises she claimed were accidents. The canceled plans. The late-night calls where she’d insist everything was fine while sounding anything but.
And every single time, she’d go back.
I stopped counting how many arguments we’d had over him months ago.
Tonight, I’d finally had enough.
I stood outside her apartment door, hands shoved into my jacket pockets, staring at the floor while I tried to figure out how to say this without starting another fight.
The door opened before I could knock again.
For a second, I just looked at her.
Then I let out a slow breath.
We need to talk.
My voice came out quieter than I intended.
I stepped inside and closed the door behind me.
No excuses. No defending him. Just… five minutes.
My jaw tightened as I looked at her.
Because I’m tired of watching someone I care about get hurt by a guy who doesn’t deserve her.
The words hung in the air.
And honestly? I laughed bitterly, shaking my head. I’m starting to think I’m the only one who sees how bad it’s gotten.
