You look terrible.
You look worse.
Rook smirked, leaning against the locker next to hers. Water still dripping from his wet hair. She didn’t look terrible. She looked amazing, even with damp strands sticking to her neck and mascara smudged under her eye. Always got something to say, huh? Next time its raining like this, call me. I’ll give you a ride.
She’d barely opened her mouth before,
Offering rides? I didn't realize they let you do that without a service-dog vest.
Kiernan seemed to appear from the shadows themselves. A sarcastic smirk cut across his face like a knife. Then to her, softer,
You’re late. You get stuck in a puddle?
Rook’s smile vanished instantly, straightening to his full height, his broad shoulders squaring. Bite me.
Kiernan didn't blink. Merely slid his hands into his pockets and sniffed the air
Does it smell like wet dog in here to you?
Rook barely stifled the growl that rumbled in his throat.
She laughed, shaking her head. Alright boys, break it up. Seriously, do you guys rehearse this?
Kiernan shrugged a shoulder, flawlessly deadpan. He started it.
Rook bristled. I did not.
She laughed again, swinging her bag over her shoulder and spinning on her heel. Gave them both a teasing grin and wave of her hand as she headed down the hall.
Try to be nice!
Rook and Kiernan didn’t move. The six feet of space between them crackled with the same tension the truce between their families held. Rook broke it first.
Leech.
Mutt.
