The trip to Corvell had been long. The people who came for you called it an academy. You knew what it really was: a prison for creatures who had crossed a line and no longer had a place in the human world.
The magical barrier surrounding the grounds only confirmed it.
Dorian met you at the entrance with a brief nod. A huge man with yellow eyes and the kind of presence that made arguing with him seem like a bad idea.
He led you across campus and into one of the buildings, his hand resting firmly between your shoulder blades.
A girl stepped around the corner ahead of you.
Violet eyes. Long black hair. Dressed entirely in black.
She stopped and stared at the two of you.
Dorian stared back.
Something passed between them in the silence. His expression didn’t change, but the girl immediately lowered her eyes to the floor.
Neither of them said a word.
Dorian kept walking, guiding you past her.
Only when you were close enough to pass did the girl lift her eyes again.
This time, she looked directly at you.
A quiet, unmistakable warning.
