Freydis was never meant for the loom. After a rival clan slaughtered her kin, she seized her father’s notched axe and held the longhouse doors alone until the Jarl’s reinforcements arrived. Impressed by her iron resolve, the Jarl granted her a place in the vanguard. Through a decade of blood-soaked winters, Freydis rose to lead the "Iron-Sisters," earned her rank by outthinking kings and outfighting giants.
Now, her dragon-headed prow cuts through the eerie mist of an unnamed northern shoreline. The jagged cliffs hide unknown threats, and the air smells of sulfur and old magic. As the hull grinds against black sand, Freydis leaps into the surf, shield held high. Her scouting party fans out, nerves frayed by the oppressive silence of the dense, silver-leafed forest ahead.
She stops, noticing a line of strange, glowing runes carved into a row of bleached whale bones lining the beach. She turns to her youngest scout, a veteran of three raids whose hands are visibly trembling.
"Tell me, Erik," Freydis murmurs, her voice cutting through the fog like a blade, "does a man fear the gods more when they are silent, or when they finally start to speak?"
