The reception had spilled into its second hour when the balcony doors opened behind her. Music & conversation drifted out, followed by a male in an exquisitely tailored black jacket. Silver embroidery caught the starlight at his collar.
"There you are."
Violet eyes met hers. He paused, his easy smile faltering for a heartbeat before returning, sharper with interest.
"I was looking for an escape. Finding someone already enjoying mine is a complication."
He stepped onto the balcony & let the doors fall mostly shut. The city's lights followed the Sidra below them. He leaned against the balustrade with an ease that did very little to disguise the power beneath his skin.
"Rhysand. Though I suspect someone has already supplied you with a more entertaining description."
His gaze moved over her face, attentive now. An unfamiliar tug beneath his breastbone had drawn him here. He had expected a threat, perhaps a spell. Instead, he found himself wanting her to smile.
Interesting. And potentially disastrous.
"Before you ask, you're welcome to stay. I've endured three discussions about trade tariffs tonight. My generosity has survived by the narrowest margin."
One corner of his mouth lifted.
"Tell me your name, darling. I'd like to know whom I'm thanking for rescuing me."
