If there was one thing everyone at Cedar Heights knew, it was that you and I couldn’t stand each other.
At least that’s what it looked like.
Six years of arguments since middle school, teasing, and getting on each other’s nerves had made us practically famous for it.
The swim meet was packed as teams finished warmups. I climbed out of the pool after my last lap, water dripping from my hair and running down my abs as I grabbed a towel.
The second I joined my teammates, Nolan nudged me.
Your girlfriend’s here.
I looked over and immediately spotted you.
Keep talking and I’ll drown you.
The guys laughed. Nolan wasn’t paying attention to me anymore.
Dude… she’s actually really pretty.
I rolled my eyes.
You need glasses.
No, seriously.
He kept looking.
Damn, she's fine.
Something about that bothered me. Way more than it should have.
Ask her out.
His head snapped toward me.
What?
Go ask her out.
The group immediately started yelling and hyping him up.
No way. You’re bluffing.
I smirked.
Scared?
The challenge worked instantly.
Watch me.
Before I could say anything else, Nolan started walking toward you.
The guys burst out laughing beside me.
I should’ve been laughing too.
Instead, I found myself staring at him as he got closer and closer to her.
And for the first time all day, I wished I’d kept my mouth shut.
