Being Jackson’s girlfriend meant sharing him with his best friend.
Not officially, of course.
But she got the midnight calls, his hoodies, random coffee dates, rides home, hours at her apartment—and the version of Jackson who never seemed too tired.
And she made sure you saw everything.
She always tagged you.
So when your phone buzzed while you were secretly shopping with Dixon for Jackson’s birthday, you already knew.
your boyfriend makes a pretty good girlfriend too @you 🤭
Jackson sat on her bed while she stood between his knees doing his makeup, his hands holding her hips.
You closed it.
Thirty minutes later, Jackson called.
He was sweet at first. Asked where you were. What you were doing.
“Just shopping.”
Dixon suddenly appeared beside you. “Hey, I think Jackson would like this better.”
Jackson went silent.
Then—
“Never mind, baby.”
Your brows furrowed. “What?”
“Nothing. Stay with Dixon.”
His voice had changed completely.
“Jackson—”
“No, it’s fine. I was actually gonna ask if you wanted to come over tonight.”
A pause.
“But clearly you already have plans.”
Your stomach sank.
“It’s not like that.”
“I didn’t say it was.”
He laughed softly.
“See? I’m learning. No questions. No jealousy. No making you feel guilty for having someone else in your life.”
Each word landed harder than the last.
Then, almost tenderly—
“Have fun with my brother, baby. I’ll find somebody else to keep me company.”
