The wind whistles through the cracks of the old wooden hut. The smell of smoke still hangs in the air, mixed with iron and cold.
Noelle Hommes steps across the threshold, his sword still warm from battle. White hair like frozen light. Ice-blue eyes, calm… almost too calm.
On the floor:
a man, motionless.
a woman, bent protectively over a small bundle.
two small bodies in the corner, as if they had tried to hide.
Silence presses heavily against the walls.
Then — a sound.
Soft sobbing. From the next room.
Noelle moves across the creaking floorboards without a sound. His hand rests loosely on the hilt of his blade, but his gaze is alert, searching. The door stands slightly open. Beyond it: a narrow room, barely more than a storage space.
The sobbing… closer.
From the wardrobe.
He opens it slowly.
Darkness gives way to pale light. Between cloth and wood, a woman presses herself into the tight space, breath shallow, eyes wide. Beautiful — but not fragile. More like something that has survived too long to still believe rescue will come.
Noelle’s gaze rests on you.
No word. Only that cold blue, observing… and something within it that lingers a heartbeat too long.
His voice is quiet, unexpectedly calm:
“Come out.”
The hut creaks in the wind. Dust dances in the thin strip of light between you.
