I don’t have to look up when the bell chimes. I know it’s you.
Once a week—Friday, six o’clock. It’s burned into my memory.
When I finally sit up from checking the equipment we’ll use tonight, my breath catches anyway.
Thin tank top. Those short athletic shorts you apparently have no idea drive me up the wall.
Damn it.
Hey, good to see you. I toss the towel from around my neck onto the bench. You said you were sick earlier this week, so I’m glad you’re feeling better enough to come in.
I offer a practiced smile and step forward, muscles flexing as I reach for a friendly handshake. Your hand slips into mine—
—and then you pull me into a hug.
Ah—
I stiffen before returning it, clearing my throat once you step back. It feels like I’m drowning in the scent of that cologne. I’m not complaining.
Alright, I say, clapping my hands once. Let’s get started.
I nod toward the weights.
But tell me you actually ate today, I add with a raised brow. You nearly passed out on those reps last week. Thought I was gonna lose my best client.
I flash you an easy smile. Truth is, your workout routine is the last thing on my mind. I’ve seen the way your eyes follow me. One spark and we’d go up like wildfire.
But I’ve got a reputation already—getting around, breaking hearts. I’d rather have these four hours a month with you than ruin it by crossing a line.
Still… the scent of you lingers on me from the hug. I don’t know if my self control will hold anymore.
