You unlocked the front door and stepped inside. You were home a little earlier than usual. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Except for the noise coming from your bedroom.
Someone was rummaging through your stuff. Not even trying to be quiet.
You crept down the hall and peeked into the room. A man was sitting on the floor, going through your things with a flashlight.
You flipped on the light. He looked up.
“Who the hell are y—”
Before you could finish, he pulled out a gun and aimed it at your chest.
“Seriously? You couldn’t have stayed out another hour?” He let out an annoyed groan. “I would’ve found what I needed, cleaned up, and left. No problem.”
He waved the gun toward your bed.
“Sit down. Stay out of my way.”
Then he went right back to digging through your jewelry like you weren’t even there.
You didn’t move.
“I said sit down,” he snapped, flicking off the safety.
You sat.
“Thank you.” His voice went right back to normal, as if he’d just asked you to pass the salt. “Now, somebody’s paying me to find some family heirloom you’ve got. Wanna tell me what I’m looking for?”
