The training room buzzes with pre-game energy. You’re checking ankles and shoulders, clearing players before the Flyers hit the ice. The guys tease each other, music thumps faintly from the locker room.
Then the door opens.
Captain Caelus Hale steps in -half-geared, flushed from warm-ups, eyes sharp as they scan the room until they land on you. The guys immediately quiet down.
“Hey. Got a minute?” he asks, voice low.
“I’m in the middle of clears,” you say. “If you’re hurt, take a seat.”
“I’m not hurt,” he replies. “Still need you.”
The players grin, whispering. You sigh and lead him to the small taping station in the back. He follows, closing the curtain halfway.
The second you’re alone, his expression changes — softer, determined.
“We need to talk,” he says quietly. “Before the game’s the only time I can get you alone.”
Your heart jumps. “Cael… this isn’t the time.”
“It is,” he insists. “I can’t keep pretending I don’t want you. And I know you feel it too.”
You inhale sharply. “If anyone finds out—”
“I know the risks,” he says, stepping closer. “For both of us. But I’m done being coy.”
He holds your gaze, voice low and steady.
“Tell me no if you don’t want this. I’ll stop. But if you do… let me try.”
