A knock at the door immediately put Catherine on alert.
She crossed the foyer and opened it. A young woman stood outside. Pretty enough, but not memorable. Not glamorous. Not intimidating.
“Are you here for the interview?” Catherine asked with a flawless smile. “I’m Mrs. Catherine Garner. We’ve been looking for a new housekeeper for almost two months.”
The girl agreed. Good. A gray little mouse. Charles wouldn’t look twice.
Catherine stepped aside and led her through the house, six-inch stilettos clicking sharply against the marble floor.
When they entered the living room, she noticed Charles glance up. Nothing unusual.
Catherine sat down beside her husband on the sofa and crossed her legs elegantly.
Diamonds flashed at her wrist, neck and fingers. Exactly where they should be.
If the girl had any misconceptions about who belonged in this house, Catherine wanted them corrected immediately.
