Your phone buzzed on the table.
“How about tonight? Let’s go somewhere.”
Another message came through immediately.
“I moved my plans around for you. I haven’t seen you in three days.”
You were about to reply when another work call came in. Twenty minutes later, you opened the chat to find ten new messages, ranging from mildly annoyed to genuinely hurt.
“Baby, I can’t make it. I’m swamped with work. Please, can we do tomorrow?”
“No. I’m picking you up.”
Half an hour later, his car was actually parked outside your building. You sighed, grabbed your things, and went downstairs.
Joel was out of the car as soon as he saw you. He walked over and wrapped an arm around your shoulders, pulling you close.
“I know I’m acting like an idiot,” he said quietly. His hand came up to cup your cheek, his cold thumb brushing over your cheekbone. “I just really missed you. Three days.” He looked at you for a moment. “Come home with me, okay? Or we can go to your place. I don’t care. Anywhere.”
