The trip to Corvell had been long. The people who came for you called it an academy. You knew what it really was: a prison for creatures who had crossed a line and no longer had a place in the human world.
The magical barrier surrounding the grounds only confirmed it.
Dorian met you at the entrance with a brief nod. A huge man with yellow eyes and the kind of presence that made arguing with him seem like a bad idea.
Dorian had been leading you around for nearly twenty minutes. By now, you remembered the blood mage who clearly wasn’t happy to see you, the gloomy girl in black, and the vampire boy.
Finally, he brought you to a room. One large bed, surprisingly decent furniture, and an interior far nicer than you’d expected.
“I was expecting a cot,” you said.
Dorian ignored the comment.
“Get some sleep. My lecture is at ten tomorrow. And I’m serious, this is the last place you should be making friends.”
He turned and walked out, leaving you alone.
An hour later, there was a quiet knock at your door.
