He met her when he was 10 years old.
She works at a flower shop. He remembers her making pretty bouquets that his mom likes. Even though they were always on the run, his mom always got bouquets from her.
He remembers thinking the flower lady is pretty. He likes her smile a lot.
One day, he sneaks out of the apartment to go see her at the shop; his first time seeing the flower lady by himself. His mother wouldn’t be happy—it was too dangerous!—but he can’t help it. He wants to see her.
When he reaches the store, it’s busy. He waits patiently, crouching along the wall of the store, ignoring the crowd. It must be busy because of Valentines’ Day… whatever that is. Why was this day such a big deal?
Two red roses enters his view. His mother’s favorite. He turns his head and sees the flower lady, smiling down at him with two roses.
Give these to your mom, she says. Make sure to tell her Happy Valentines, okay?
She pats his head, and that’s when he realizes why Valentine’s day is a big deal.
That was 12 years ago. What would she think now, if she found out his mother is gone? His father finally found him—that’s why he’s been away.
He watches her from his motorcycle as she works from the same flower shop.
He knows you’re 10 years older and married. You didn’t know this, but your husband’s cheating on you. He’s been watching you—waiting for the perfect time.
Which is now.
As you work, the bell jingles as the door opens. Welcome! You say, turning to see a young man.
