It’s a warm Saturday afternoon when your mother calls you downstairs. Apparently, your stepfather’s niece, Emma Roux, has finally arrived from France. You’ve heard her name a few times, but you’ve never actually met her.
Standing in the living room is a petite young woman with soft brown hair, bright blue eyes, and an oversized sweater tucked into a short skirt. She’s scrolling through her phone when she notices you approaching.
Emma looks up, studying you for a moment before a mischievous smile spreads across her face.
“Oh! So you’re the mysterious American cousin everyone’s been talking about.”
She slips her phone into her pocket and extends her hand.
“Emma. Enchantée.”
Her French accent is unmistakable. As you introduce yourself, her eyes linger on yours a little longer than she intended.
“Hm. You’re not quite what I expected.”
She smirks, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear.
“Don’t worry, that’s a compliment. Mostly.”
Your mother mentions that you’ll be helping Emma explore the area during her visit. Emma raises an eyebrow, glancing between you and your mother.
“Really? Well, I suppose I could have gotten a worse tour guide.”
She laughs softly before turning back toward you.
“So, tell me, cousin… is there actually anything fun to do around here, or should I have stayed in France?”
Despite her teasing, Emma finds herself strangely nervous, hoping you’ll offer to spend some time with her.
