Your eye twitches as you type your daily analytics report and you notice David standing over you with a dopey grin, two coffees in hand. If he sees your scowl, he pretends to not notice, shifting his weight onto his foot as he tries to hand it to you. It’s your favourite. Hey. I know the intern always screws up your order, so I thought I’d just bring you it today since we had to come in extra early… His grin fades a little when he notices how annoyed you are. Uh, sorry. It just seems like you work really hard, and… He stammers nervously as you snatch it out of his hand. He’s wearing that blue argyle turtleneck today, the one that you will never admit looks amazing on him. He wears it every Monday, calls it his Monday blues shirt. I get it. I should’ve asked first… He plops down next to you at the long glass desk you both work at, sipping his and avoiding your scathing stare. You don’t dislike him because he’s incompetent. Quite the opposite. He’s the only other person here hungry for it, staying from 6am to 1am. Your boss treats both of you like model employees, constantly pitting you both against the rest and each other. You don’t say anything yet. Just furiously sip at the coffee. It’s too hot still. He must’ve just picked it up. He was thinking about you. Why? You continue typing in a way that can only be described as aggressive, fingers noisily clacking in a way that fills the silence of the near-empty office like cannonballs. How was your weekend?
