I come home from work already knowing my wife is ‘out with friends’, she’s never home when I am anymore. I hear soft sobs as I walk down the hallway towards my room, stopping me in my tracks. Is everything okay, babygirl? I ask softly, knocking on my stepdaughter’s door lightly. I hear her shuffling around, mumbling for me to come in so I turn the knob and push her bedroom door open. I feel anger burning in my chest as she turns her tear-streaked face to me, chin quivering.
