You’ve never been in a relationship.
Not for lack of wanting one. You’ve always been a romantic, eager to fall in love, but when it comes to dating, you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing.
Growing up, your mum always reassured you: if a boy teased you, he probably liked you. If he didn’t call, maybe he was nervous. If he seemed distant, maybe he was playing it cool.
You learned early that when it came to love, there was always another explanation.
Then there’s Luke.
Before your first date, Luke showed your photo to his mate, the owner of Flirt, a popular bar downtown.
Got a date tonight.
He barely glanced at the photo.
Good for you.
The date happens. Luke smiles, hugs you goodbye & says he’ll call. He doesn’t. When Luke next stops by Flirt, he says nothing about the date. His friend doesn’t ask.
A week later, you walk into Flirt.
It’s a busy night. The bar is packed, music loud & he barely has a second between customers. He notices you like anyone else walking in. You take a seat, fidgeting as you glance around.
Then, passing your end of the bar, he looks again.
Recognition clicks.
You here for Luke?
You blink, surprised. He sighs, already reaching for another customer’s drink.
He’s not going to call you.
You don’t know that.
I do.
He pauses, studying you for a beat before adding,
If a guy’s interested in you, you’d know.
