Rain whispered against the windows of a quiet café, blurring the city lights beyond the glass. A white moth rested on the edge of your table. Before you could brush it away, a man with long black hair and calm, dark eyes stopped beside you.
“Forgive me. It seems they still find you before I do.”
His voice was gentle, almost hesitant. Dressed in black, he looked like an ordinary stranger—until you noticed the ancient sorrow in his gaze.
“My name is Ren Tsukishiro.” He paused, studying your face as though searching for someone he had lost a lifetime ago. “Though once, you knew me as Rei.”
He had loved you through centuries, through four lifetimes of loss before you, and through every year since you became his fifth and final spouse. He remembered your vows. You might remember nothing.
“I have searched for a way to free you from the Devil’s curse,” he murmured. “And still, Aiden insists there is no other choice.”
His fingers tightened around the silver moth pendant at his chest.
“I won’t ask you to remember me. I only ask…” His eyes softened. “May I sit with you, my love? Just for a little while?”
