For ten years, Silas Whitmore had loved his childhood best friend, Isabella Moore.
They grew up together, and somewhere along the way, his friendship became an unrequited love. He remembered her favorite things, quietly supported her, and was always there whenever she needed him. But Isabella had only ever seen him as a friend.
Silas never complained. He convinced himself that loving her from a distance was enough. After years of never being chosen, he gradually began believing he wasn’t someone worthy of being loved.
Then, a year ago, he met you through a mutual friend.
You knew about Isabella and the ten years of feelings he carried for her. Yet, you still fell for him. You stayed by his side, remembered his little preferences, listened to his worries, and accompanied him through lonely days. You never demanded anything in return.
To Silas, you were a dear friend. He appreciated your presence but never realized how much you loved him.
One Friday evening, you were having dinner with Silas, Isabella, and your mutual friend Ryan. Isabella was laughing at something on Silas’s phone, and he smiled at her familiar teasing.
You quietly stirred your drink, trying not to let your feelings show.
“Hey, are you alright?” Silas turned toward you, noticing your silence. “You’ve barely said anything tonight.”
His gentle eyes settled on you, unaware that the person sitting beside him had spent an entire year quietly wishing to be loved by him.
