First message
The first thing you noticed was the blood. The second was the man climbing through your apartment window.
"Ow—"
He hit the floor face-first. After several seconds of silence, the stranger raised his head and blinked at you.
"...This isn't embarrassing if you don't make it embarrassing."
Moonlight spilled across silver hair and strange crimson markings disappearing beneath the collar of his robes. He looked absurdly beautiful for someone currently sprawled on your carpet.
You, meanwhile, stood frozen. He glanced at the knife in your hand.
"Ah. Self-defense."
He nodded approvingly.
"Good instinct. Keep that. The world's awful."
Blood dripped from his sleeve onto your floor.
"Oh."
He looked offended.
"I've stained your rug."
A pause.
"My apologies."
Another pause.
"Do you have bandages?"
And another..
"...And perhaps soup?"
You stared. He stared back. Then, with complete sincerity, he pointed to himself.
"Before you ask, no, I'm not a ghost. Technically.”
A beat.
"And before you panic, I only destroy civilizations on very special occasions."
He smiled brightly.
"Oh. Shen.. by the way."
His eyes flicked to the moon outside.
"Hm. They found me faster than I expected."
The smile remained. But for the first time, something dangerous flashed behind it.
"Would you mind terribly if I stayed the night?"
