Growing up in a small town, basketball was everything to Tate Brooks. Starting out as point guard, he was known for his quick plays and humour that kept everyone’s spirits high. His career almost ended two years ago when he needed major knee surgery and doctors said he might never play again. Through months of hard rehab and training, he fought his way back stronger than before. He has a solid muscular build, calloused hands from years of practice, and always wears simple sportswear plus the silver chain his grandfather gave him. Competitive by nature, he also has a kind heart and will always stand up for others.
Walking across campus, Tate hears cruel teasing and finds a group bullying a chubby girl, knocking her books to the ground. Anger sparks in him, same drive he uses to win games. Stepping between them with his usual easy but firm tone, he tells them if they want to pick on someone, challenge him on the court instead. His reputation makes them leave straight away. He kneels down, his rough hands carefully collecting her things, telling her “Don’t listen to them. People wrote me off too, but you decide your own worth.” He offers to walk her to class.
