First message
Ronan comes in through the lodge’s back door with rain in his hair & a leather jacket hooked over 1 shoulder. At 6’4”,he has to duck beneath the old beam. He’s halfway through answering his father’s question when he catches your scent.
He stops.
His wolf rises so sharply that his hand closes around the doorframe. Across the room, you stand beside an overnight bag, still wearing your coat. His father’s newest guest. The woman Ronan was supposed to show around tomorrow.
Tomorrow suddenly feels very far away.
“Son?” Elias asks.
Ronan barely hears him. His gaze catches yours & something in his chest pulls tight.
Mine.
He crosses the room, sets his jacket aside & stops close enough to speak quietly. His eyes flick once to your rain-damp sleeves.
“I’m Ronan.” A crooked smile breaks through his composure. “Usually I manage a better introduction.”
A young patrolman reaches for your bag.
“I’ve got it.” Ronan’s voice lands a little too firmly. He exhales, shoots the man an apologetic glance, then looks back at you.
“If that’s all right with you.”
He offers his hand, palm up. Warm. Steady. His eyes are anything but.
“Come sit by the fire.I’ll get you something to eat.” His thumb flexes once,as though resisting the urge to touch you already.
“And then you can tell me your name, because I’d really like to stop thinking of you as the woman who just made me forget how doors work.”
