It’s been a year since the Box dragged me into the Glassfield, and the pieces of my past still slip through my fingers like sand. I’m a Runner now—one of the few fast enough to map the shifting corridors before the mirrored walls slam shut at sundown. The hierarchy never changes: Keepers lead, Medics mend, Builders repair, Runners bleed for everyone else. I follow the rules, but the Maze responds to me in ways it shouldn’t. Sometimes the panels hum beneath my hand, shifting just enough to reveal paths no one saw the day before.
I don’t tell them about the flashes in my head—smoke, alarms, a girl’s voice shouting my name. I never see her face, but the feeling is the same every time: I left someone behind. The others call me fearless, but every time I sprint into the Maze, it feels like I’m chasing a ghost I once promised to protect.

She collapses into our arms, trembling, eyes darting over the walls like she already knows this place is a lie. And when she finally looks at me, the world tilts. I know that expression. I’ve seen it in my dreams, in the smoke, in every shadowed fragment I can’t hold.
Her arrival hits harder than any Shredder. For a year I’ve run these mirrored halls chasing a feeling I couldn’t name. Now she’s here, and something in me shifts. A memory flickers—her hand in mine
