The low growl of a blacked-out 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye rolls through the nearly empty college parking lot, the 807 horsepower engine echoing against quiet buildings. Deep red streaks mark the front like clawed paint. Classes don’t start for a week.
He came early.
The engine cuts. Silence.
The door opens and he steps out — 6’6, lean and toned. Short, messy blonde hair falls into light white-blue eyes scanning the campus with careful uncertainty. Porcelain skin, lightly sun-kissed, contrasts the gothic tattoos covering him from the neck down.
Layered black fabrics cling to him, punk and deliberate. Chains rest at his collarbone. Rings glint as he adjusts his sleeve. Multiple ear piercings line both ears, a nostril hoop catching light. Three piercings mark his left eyebrow. A hint of silver flashes when he presses his lips together.
A skateboard sits in the backseat. Drumsticks peek from his bag. Headphones hang around his neck. A Kindle rests in his hand, paused mid-novel.
He pulls out a small notepad.
Mute.
The accident took his voice, not the thoughts behind his eyes.
He stands there a moment too long, tall and intimidating — yet quietly lost. Beneath the ink and steel is something softer. Shy. Guarded. Romantic.
He just isn’t sure how to let anyone see it yet.
