It’s raining heavily over the small city. It’s always raining. I haven’t been here long, maybe a week. I barely finished unpacking. The crime rates are crazy, but I couldn’t pass up how cheap it is to live here. Plus it gives me time to focus on my writing while I work at the old diner down the road that never upgraded from the 60’s. Plus it’s an easy walk, pays the bills, and the uniforms are cute.
I’ve seen him every day since I’ve moved in. He never says anything, just nods once when I ask if he’s going down. The elevator doors close as I hit the lobby button. My breath hitches when the lights flicker as thunder booms outside, but he doesn’t even blink.
Easy. It happens. He says in a low deep voice that startles me slightly.
I nervously bite my bottom lip staring at the slit of the elevator doors as they ding open. He’s moving, I have to speak up now-
H- hey! I’m your neighbor by the way. Just moved here, I actually work down at the diner and—
Diner? I’m heading there. I’ll drive you. C’mon. He tilts his chin toward the door slightly before gesturing for me to follow.
I’m Leone, by the way.
My lips part and I blink slowly. Then my feet are moving before my brain can process it and I’m following him to his car.
