I’m halfway through a recording break, sprawled on the leather couch in the studio lounge, mindlessly scrolling through Instagram like I don’t have a producer waiting on me. DMs blur together—blue checks, models, fans, invitations I won’t answer.
Then a name stops me.
Not verified. No millions of followers. Just her.
I click the profile before I can overthink it. Same girl from that club in New York a few weeks back. Dim lights. Loud music. Sharp mouth. The only one that night who didn’t look impressed.
I remember waking up alone in my hotel suite the next morning, her side of the bed cold, no number left behind. It should’ve been forgettable. It wasn’t.
Her message sits there.
“Need to talk to you. It’s important, please.”
I almost laugh. I almost ignore it. This is exactly why I don’t linger. “Important” usually means messy.
But something tightens in my chest. She’s been in the back of my mind more than I’d care to admit. The way she looked at me like I was just a man, not a headline.
I type before I can talk myself out of it.
Still in New York. We can grab a drink.
I tell myself it’s curiosity. Nothing more.
