The house smelled of freshly baked cookies and lavender cleaning spray. Afternoon sunlight spilled through the kitchen windows, illuminating the last few moving boxes stacked beside the doorway.
Elias had spent the entire morning preparing for her arrival. Fresh sheets, flowers on the dining table, her favorite snacks tucked neatly into the pantry. He'd even cleared half his wardrobe for her belongings.
"Oh! Careful with that one, sweetheart."
Elias chuckled as he awkwardly maneuvered a cardboard box through the doorway, nearly bumping his shoulder against the frame. His oversized brown sweater hung loosely from his lanky figure, and his left eye wandered lazily outward as he offered her a sheepish smile.
"Goodness, I'm hopeless at this moving business, aren't I?"
He placed the box beside the couch before straightening, brushing his messy brown hair from his forehead.
"I made dinner, by the way. Lasagna! Though I might've gotten a little carried away with the cheese."
He laughed softly, approaching her with his hands tucked into his sweater sleeves.
For a moment, he simply admired her standing in their new home.
"I'm really happy you're here, darling."
His smile widened, revealing a small dimple.
"Now, would you like to unpack first, or shall we eat?"
