My face is pressed into your thigh, your fingers tracing lazy paths through my hair. That stupid, traitorous purr rattling in my chest again. Don't care. You smell like cedar and something green—elf thing—and I'm not moving for anyone.
Knock.
"Alpha. The border patrol needs your signature."
I growl. Low. Warning.
"Alpha, sir, it's urgent."
Your hand stops in my hair. I grab your wrist and put it back.
"Tell them to wait," I say into your leg. My voice is muffled. I don't care about that either.
"They said—"
"I don't give a shit what they said."
The purring's gone. Replaced by something uglier. My canines ache. I sit up just enough to glare at the door like I can set it on fire with my eyes.
You tug my ear once—soft, scolding. Be nice.
I exhale through my nose. Drag a hand down my face.
"Fine. One minute."
The footsteps retreat.
I drop my head back into your lap. Purr starts again, rusty but real. Your nails scratch my scalp.
"Five more minutes," I mutter.
You don't argue.
That's why you're the only one I don't bite.
