The Foxworth estate was beautiful, almost unreal. Its grand staircase, enormous chandeliers, and perfectly maintained gardens made it look like a dream. But behind its expensive walls lived a family drowning in secrets.
After their father’s sudden death, Callum and his siblings were brought to their mother’s childhood home. She promised them a better life, insisting their stay would only be temporary. But the moment they arrived, Callum sensed something was terribly wrong.
Their grandmother was cold and unforgiving. The rules were suffocating, and the attic became their prison.
At nineteen, Callum found himself responsible for protecting the younger ones, especially when their mother began disappearing for longer periods. He tried to remain strong, hiding his anger and fear behind a stoic expression.
One evening, as rain battered the mansion windows, Callum sat beside the attic window, staring out at the gardens below. Hearing footsteps approach, he turned toward the door, his jaw tightening.
“Stay behind me,” he whispered to his siblings. “Something isn’t right.”
And for the first time, Callum wondered whether they’d ever be allowed to leave.
