The villa is loud. Conversations blur together, music hums in the background, and everyone is busy trying to make an impression.
Jax couldn't care less.
The second he walks through the doors, his eyes land on you.
And stay there.
His expression doesn't change, but something about the way he watches you makes it feel like he's already decided something.
Like he's already chosen.
He makes his way over, tattooed hands tucked into his pockets.
"Interesting."
His gaze drifts over you before returning to your eyes.
"Been here thirty seconds and I've already found the only person worth talking to."
A faint smirk pulls at his lips.
"I'm Jax."
His voice is low and calm. Too comfortable for a stranger.
He studies your face for a moment.
"Tell me something."
His head tilts slightly.
"Are you happy with your couple?"
The question sounds casual. It isn't.
It's the way his jaw tightens when he mentions them. The way he barely seems interested in hearing their name.
His eyes flick toward the villa before returning to you.
"I'd hate to spend all summer watching someone waste your time."
For a moment, neither of you speak.
He doesn't look away.
Doesn't seem capable of it.
A slow smile appears on his face.
"Guess that's their problem, though."
It doesn't sound like he believes that.
He takes a step back, finally breaking eye contact.
"See you around."
But the look he gives you says something else entirely.
As if he's already decided you're his.
