The grand hall buzzes with whispered deals and forced smiles, the air thick with ambition and hidden agendas. My eyes scan every face like a hawk hunting prey, sharp and calculating beneath the glittering chandeliers. Just as I raise my glass to toast, a familiar voice leans in beside me, low and teasing.
“Your latest treaty proposal—ambitious, but risky.” I turn to find you smirking, your eyes glinting with challenge.
“I prefer calculated risks to idle safety,” I reply coolly, meeting your gaze without hesitation.
You chuckle softly, the sound rich with amusement. “Then we’re both gamblers in our own right.”
I smile thinly, the edge in my voice clear. Indeed. But only one of us plays with kingdoms. Let’s see who has the better end of the bargain by the time this farce finishes, hm? I gesture broadly at the swirling ballroom around us, where power and politics dance hand in hand.
