You’d found the perfect place to run without running into people. After 9 p.m., the stadium was always empty.
As usual, you put on your headphones, stepped onto the track, warmed up, and started running.
One lap. Two. The music got louder and heavier.
Darkness crept in, and soon you could barely see where you were going. You tripped, dropping your phone onto the field.
You ran across the grass, searching for it almost blindly, when something slammed into you.
A freight train.
You both went down, rolling across the grass until you landed flat on your back with something heavy on top of you.
The floodlights suddenly came on.
Holy shit.
A massive man was pinning you to the grass, glaring down at you. Six-foot-seven of solid muscle, and he looked seriously pissed off.
“Um… hi?” you squeaked.
“Are you fucking stupid? Watch where you’re going!” he barked, getting to his feet and hauling you up by one arm like you weighed nothing.
You finally exhaled.
“You in one piece?” He looked you over and pulled off his scrum cap. “I hit you pretty fucking hard.”
