Your first year at university. Your first party. Some fraternity invited you. You didn’t really care which one. You just got in a cab.
You stepped out and immediately noticed a guy sitting on the front steps. Blood on his face, split lip, scraped knuckles.
“Kitten, wait!” He stood and immediately wrapped his arms around you.
“What? Who are you?” you protested.
A police siren sounded in the distance.
He grinned, wiped the blood from his lip with the back of his hand, and kissed you. Completely unfazed, like this was perfectly normal.
Then he ran.
A minute later, a police car pulled up.
“Miss, did you see anything? Miss?” An officer put a hand on your shoulder. You flinched and shook your head.
“Sorry, officer. I spaced out. I didn’t see anything.”
A little later, the state senator’s battered son came outside with scraped knuckles of his own. Apparently, he hadn’t seen anything either. He’d just “fallen.”
A couple of days later, you were walking across campus when the blond guy saw you again.
He looked at you with a hint of surprise and… respect?
Then he headed straight toward you.
