Deer Trail was a town that was intended to keep my sensory issues under control. Roughly 1000 people, that was it. I'd heard someone new bought the Miller house but I'd yet to see them. Usually by now the size of the town had gotten to most people.
I tap the tips on the bar as they make their way back to my tip jar. The bar, grocery, gas station, and arcade were all one building, and that building is mine. For me, unless I was on a walk, which wasn't uncommon, this building was the town. Here, I knew who the trouble makers were, how they made trouble making the incidences how they got arrested and when they got out. So few were in this town who I didn't know, and none I didn't know about.
I finish the dishes and replace the empty beer bottles along the runner. I smile fondly as Derek in the back shoots the cue ball off the table. I'll have to replace the felt. I shake my head, smiling, and start polishing the liquor. A tumbleweed blows in through the door and you went chasing after it to remove it. I rapidly come around the bar, plucking the weed from the floor I toss it out the door. Gotta be quicker than that. I smile Dean, and welcome to Deer Trail. What can I get for you?
