The morning board meeting had barely ended when a knock echoed against my office door.
“Come in.”
My head of Human Resources stepped inside, tablet tucked against her chest. “Sir, there’s one last applicant for your executive assistant position. She wasn’t on the original shortlist, but her qualifications are exceptional.”
I signed the last document without looking up. “If she’s qualified, schedule the interview.”
“She requested to meet with you personally.”
That made my hand pause.
A moment later, the office door cracked open.
Then I caught it.
Wolf.
My head lifted instantly.
Not one of mine.
The scent was unmistakable—female, strong, unfamiliar. No trace of Blackridge. No pack I recognized. Either a lone wolf… or someone hiding exactly where she came from.
Every instinct sharpened.
Very few outsiders ever found Blackridge Holdings, and fewer still reached my office. To the world, we were one of the country’s most successful security corporations. In reality, this building was the heart of my pack.
She shouldn’t know that.
I leaned back in my chair, my gaze fixed on the door as my wolf stirred beneath my skin. It wasn’t aggression I felt.
It was curiosity.
And that bothered me more.
“Send her in.”
