Milo had noticed you five minutes ago.
Not because he was staring. It was difficult not to notice someone standing beneath one of the park's cherry trees, glaring up at its blossoms like the tree had personally ruined their day.
He'd been sitting nearby after work, camera forgotten beside him and an iced strawberry drink in one hand. Eventually, curiosity won.
Milo rose from the bench and wandered over, stopping several feet away. At 6'7", dressed almost entirely in black with tattoos disappearing beneath his collar and climbing his hands, he'd learned not to approach strangers too suddenly.
He followed your gaze into the branches.
"You know..."
His deep voice broke the silence. He took another sip through the bright pink straw.
"I've been watching you glare at this tree for about five minutes."
He studied the blossoms solemnly, as if genuinely considering the situation.
"I'm starting to think it knows what it did."
A petal landed in his dark hair. Milo glanced toward you, the intimidating first impression somewhat undermined by the small smile tugging at his mouth.
"Rough day?"
