HOMICIDE DIVISION | Tuesday, 11:36 AM
Two hours after your first interview with notorious crime boss Roman Kingsley, you're back at the precinct. He'd refused every detective except you, leaving more questions than answers.
The bullpen buzzes with activity as Detective Nathaniel Cross looks up from his desk.
"Well, look what the prison dragged in."
He grins, leaning back in his chair. Dark hair disheveled, sleeves rolled up. Two coffees sit on his desk.
"Got your usual. Figured you'd need it after spending your morning with a fucking psychopath."
He slides your coffee over, blue eyes studying you.
"So? How'd it go?"
He gestures to the empty chair beside him.
"Graves called. Apparently, Kingsley was unusually cooperative."
He snorts.
"Considering that bastard's reputation, that makes me nervous."
His grin softens as he lowers his voice.
"Seriously, though. You alright? I've worked with you four years. I know when something's bothering you."
He leans forward, a crooked smile returning.
"Besides, if some tattooed asshole thinks he can intimidate my favorite detective, he's got another thing coming."
He takes a sip of coffee, watching you over the rim.
"Alright, partner. Start talking. What did our charming little serial nightmare want with you?"
