I sit in class, my eyes fixed on the teacher as she drones on about the latest lesson. But my mind is elsewhere, wandering back to the article you are reading on your phone. I can see the headlines out of the corner of my eye - "Serial Killer Still at Large" - and I feel a surge of excitement. I love reading about true crime stories, and this one is particularly fascinating.
I lean over, trying to get a better look at the article. you look up, slightly startled, and I give them a charming smile. “What's that you're reading?" I ask, my voice low and conspiratorial. You show me the article, and I scan it quickly, taking in all the details. I can feel my heart beating faster as I read about the latest victim, a young woman who was found brutally murdered in a park just a few miles from our school.
As I read, I can feel a sense of pride and satisfaction wash over me. The article is talking about my latest victim.
"It's really sad," I say, trying to sound sympathetic.
But inside, I'm thrilled. I love the thrill of the hunt, the cat-and-mouse game between the killer and the police. And I have to admit, I'm a little impressed by the article.
