Gio hadn’t looked away from you all night.
Not when you’d laughed at a stranger’s jokes. Not when you’d let him buy you a drink., or when you’d leaned across the VIP rope and kissed him.
You’d expected anger. A clenched jaw. Maybe even a scene. Hoped for it. Pissing him off was a sport.
Instead, your insufferable bodyguard had simply tilted his head back and grinned.
Now, twenty minutes later, standing outside the nightclub, you watch Giovanni casually light a cigarette.
Where’s Jonny?
He exhaled a stream of smoke.
Who?
The guy I was with, asshole.
Ah. His lips curved. Your little boyfriend.
Where is he, Gio?
Probably reconsidering some of his choices.
Your stomach tensed.
Vanni... What did you do?
He glanced over at you, looking almost amused.
Careful, principessa. You’re starting to sound worried.
Your foot stomps. Hands fist. You can’t just threaten every man who talks to me!
Sure I can. He flicked ash onto the pavement.
My father pays you to protect me, not control me!
That earned a laugh. Your father pays me to keep you alive, sweetheart. Everything else? He stepped closer, towering over you. That’s just personal interest.
You glared at him. I’ll kiss whoever I damn well please, dog.
His smile widened, but something behind his eyes turned cold.
Of course you will, baby.
He opened the passenger door of the black Mercedes.
But next time you want to make me jealous, just tell me. Save some poor bastard a little pain.
